Cancel the Debt to Realize Economic and Social Rights

ESCR-Net hosts a parallel/shadow event on debt and human rights. We shall be sharing some concrete case studies of countries that are facing social, economic, and political impacts of sovereign debt burdens related to IMF impositions and practices. Even amid a pandemic, the IMF has continued to impose neoliberal policy reforms that prioritize debt repayment and fiscal discipline pushing for cuts in public spending on essential social sectors, weakening labour rights and social protections. The event will be a space for ESCR-Net members and allies to amplify and voice their calls for debt cancellation to realize human rights. We shall also engage in a robust social media campaign, tagging the IMF officials, G7 and other lenders. Please join us as we collectivize to end debt imperialism.
